If these session dates are not suitable for you, please contact us and we will try to arrange a customized session for you. The minimum session duration should be 2 weeks as we consider less time will not satisfy anyone interested in archaeology field work. You can extend your session for a third or more weeks if you want, but you need to inform us at least one month before session start.

Agenda

Saturday. Arrival in Sofia. Meeting at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation at the hotel in Sofia.
Sunday. Trip to Hisar, accomodation, walking tour of the town.
Mon-Fri and Mon-Thu next week /9 full days in total/ - introduction with the Museum staff and the archaeological sites, fieldwork and lectures. Work will start at 8:00 am and will continue until 5 pm with a lunch break from 12 am to 1 pm.
Saturday. A day trip to the famous Thracian tomb of Kazanlak. For more info, please go to Trips.
Sunday. This will be your day off. You can spend your time in Hisar in many ways. You can visit one of the numerous spa centres with open-air pools. You can also fool around all day long - chilling at many open-air cafeterias, restaurants, bars.
Friday. Travel back to Sofia and walking city tour.
Saturday. Departure from Sofia airport

Activities outlines:

1. Introduction to the archaeological sites: A.Thracian emporion with a sanctuary (2 neighboring sites) and B. Ancient Roman thermae complex
2. Introduction to the epoch of the sites, description of similar sites in Bulgaria
3. Introduction to the methods of onsite archaeological research - mapping, instruments used, etc.
4. Practical participation in the archaeological excavations: depending on the group size the head of the excavations will specify the area for work.
5. Documentation methods, photography
6. Work with finds – sorting, signing, statistics
7. Introduction to other archaeological sites in Hisar (a visit to Starossel)
8. A day trip to Kazanlak tombs and Kazanlak historical museum

 

 

Pricing

The Fieldwork Program price per person is changed to €749.00

*Prices are calculated for accomodation in double and triple rooms. In case you insist to sleep in a single room, please let us know in advance. We will inform you about this possibility and the price.

!!!Please note that the Program price is changed to €749 as of 28th of April 2008 for applicants who apply after this date.

Program cost includes:
- Application fee;
- Meeting at the airport and airport-hotel-airport transfers;
- Accomodation on Bed&Breakfast basis in Sofia and Hisar (2 overnights in Sofia and 12 overnights in Hisar in nice 3 star hotels);
- Transfer Sofia-Hisar-Sofia;
- Digs/fieldwork and lectures fee - 9 full days;
- Day trip to Kazanlak tomb combined with a city tour, in the Saturday between the two working weeks;
- Entrance tickets for the visited site and for the Archaeology museum in Kazanlak.

Program cost DOES NOT include:
- airfare expenses*;
- travel and medical insurance;
- food and beverages for lunch and dinner for all 14 days**;
- personal expenses.

*AIRFARE TICKETS. Price does not include the travel expenses to Sofia, but we can assist you in buying international airtickets. Please, provide your travel details by email and we will forward you to our partner travel agent who will offer the best airfare rates for your trip.

**FOOD COSTS. Please, refer to FAQ for detailed food costs during your trip. The total sum needed for 2 weeks should be around €100.

SCHEDULE OF PAYMENT:
To book your participation in this Program, you should pay an Application fee of €180. The remainder of the sum should be paid upon arrival. Once you fill the application form we will send you a Letter of Confirmation and will give you our payment details together with all other arrangements.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:
There are no general deadlines for applying to this Program. Of course, the earlier you apply, the better chance for reserving a place.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:
Application fee is fully refundable 45 days before session start. After that time the Application fee is non-refundable.
